Moon Family Monthly Open Jam/Songwriter Circle

 —  —

The Moon House - message for address, Holmes Ave, Mesa

3rd Wednesday Monthly Jam Sessions at The Moon House Mesa

What A monthly get together for songwriters and acoustic musicians to get together and jam. We sit in a circle and go round robin. When it's your turn, you pick the song to share, when it's not your turn, you listen and add instrumentation.

Who Songwriters, singers, and musicians gather together to build community. Veterans and civilians welcome. This is a personal event unaffiliated with any organization.

Where Jason Moon's home in Mesa. PM me for address only if your actually coming. This is my home. Bring only friends who you would let sleep on your couch. No need to share this event beyond your immediate friends. This is a low key event.

Why To create a low pressure space to share songs. To gig swap. To find co-writers, band mates for future bands, have fun.

When 3rd Wednesday of every month starting January 18th. 6pm to 10pm. Come for the whole night, come for one song, stay and leave as you want.

Further Info Family Friendly - My daughter is 9 and will join us and/or play with kids BYOB - we'll have a cooler full of ice. Bring water, tea, coffee, beer, or wine. Inside or Outside depending on weather. We have a nice backyard with fire pit. Gear - We have 2 acoustic guitars. Kids, spouses, non musical people welcome, but the focus is around the music being made. We talk, we laugh, but we are making music the entire night..

Requires minimum of 3 musicians/songwriters to work. I'll be here, need two more to commit or we cancel. I hosted these for 2 years in Madison Wisconsin with a rotating crowd of about 15 musicians/songwriters.

This is a judgment free zone. No arguing politics, no arguing religion. Come as you are, great everyone as they are. Come as strangers, leave as friends. Come often enough and become family!

House is smoke free. Smoking aloud outside away from circle. When children are present prescription medications which are inhaled need to be done discreetly.

If i forgot to invite someone you know should be invited. I have memory issues, just remind me and I'll send them an invite.

Live music is back and the Wisconsin Veterans Museum will host a free, outdoor concert at the top of State Street to preview the release of the album, The Last Thing We Ever Do (bring your own seating) followed by a public panel discussion (free; register in advance on Eventbrite) with the musicians. The album is a collection of songs based on first–hand testimony of Vietnam veterans about their experiences. The panel will explore their creative process and the healing that art activities can bring about.

Inspired by first-hand testimony, Vietnam-era veterans and professional songwriters created the songs and studio musicians gave them voice resulting in the 14-song album, The Last Thing We Ever Do.  The origins of the project begin with Vietnam vets sharing their experiences at retreats like Warrior Songs where veterans heal through the creative arts, personal conversations, and interviews. Topics range from combat and the draft to reintegration and moral injury.

Panelist:

Jason Moon, founder and executive director of Warrior Songs; Yvette Pino, Iraq war veteran and curator of veteran art for the Museum; Doug Bradley, Madison Vietnam veteran and co-author of We Gotta Get Out of This Place: The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War; Jake Froelke, songwriter and musician. He and Bradley collaborated on “Look Out Sam,” one of the songs on the album which emphasizes the significance of music to troops in Vietnam. The Last Thing We Ever Do is produced by Wisconsin native and Iraq vet Jason Moon of Warrior Songs, a Madison-based nonprofit which brings hope and healing to veterans through music and the creative arts. Warrior’s second volume, Women at War, was awarded album of the year by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry in 2019.

*Copies of The Last Thing We Ever Do will be provided free to veterans who attend the event.

The program is presented by the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Foundation with the support of Madison’s Central Business Improvement District.
